Our center offers a variety of treatment options tailored to specific sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy. Treatments may include behavioral therapy, medication, and in some cases, recommendations for sleep hygiene improvements.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

For patients with sleep apnea, we provide CPAP therapy—a treatment that uses mild air pressure to keep the airways open during sleep, ensuring uninterrupted breathing and better sleep quality.

Our specialists provide counseling and educational resources to help patients understand their sleep conditions and manage them effectively. This includes strategies for better sleep hygiene, stress reduction, and lifestyle adjustments that promote healthier sleep.

Please bring any relevant paperwork provided by your doctor, a list of your current medications, all medications you usually take at night (including sleep aids), comfortable sleeping clothes that allow access to your calf muscles, and any personal toiletries you might need after the test, such as a toothbrush and comb.

To prepare for a sleep study, avoid caffeine after midnight on the day of the study, wake up early the morning of the study, avoid naps, and take all prescribed medications except for sleep aids, which should only be taken as directed during the study. Additionally, you should shower and avoid using lotions, creams, oils, or gels on your skin or hair.

If you experience pauses in breath while sleeping, choke or gasp for air when waking up, suffer from loud and irregular snoring, have high blood pressure, face excessive daytime sleepiness, or have difficulty maintaining alertness during critical tasks like driving, you might benefit from a sleep study.

A typical sleep study at McAlester Regional Health's Sleep Center is conducted overnight. Patients usually arrive in the evening and stay through the morning. This allows for comprehensive monitoring of sleep patterns and behaviors throughout the night.

Generally, family members are not allowed to stay overnight to ensure accurate results and maintain a controlled environment. However, exceptions can be made under special circumstances. Please discuss this with your sleep specialist if you believe it's necessary for your situation.

After your sleep study, the data collected will be analyzed by our sleep specialists. You will have a follow-up appointment where the results will be discussed in detail, and a treatment plan will be proposed based on your specific needs.
